SINCA expert session on global landscape (at the occasion of G20 in Osaka)

While conflict between the US and China has attracted so much attention, Japan has been perceived by some to have good potential to play a pivotal role in the geopolitical/economic landscape today. Tensions around trade between the two countries will definitely affect the global economy, not to mention the global supply chain and trade for Japan.

But Japan’s geographical location, relatively stable political landscape and extensive trade relationships with two powers may provide the good opportunity for Japan to make significant contribution to ease the tension.

Recent visit of President Trump as the first head of state of the New Emperor and almost unprecedented level of welcome and hospitality by Prime Minister Abe may or may not help the negotiations. Prime Minister Abe who will chair the G20 held on June 28 and 29 in Osaka seems to make every effort to make G20 succesful.

This occasion will provide interesting context for the President Trump and the President Xi Jinping for their pursuit for global leadership position. Global leadership is not limited to trade and economy, as technological leadership will play significant role in the future. In fact, China with her unprecedented investment in R & D and people seems to come close to the dominant US leadership in technology.

At our SINCA session on Tuesday, June 25, we will have two experts on defense and foreign policy leading the discussion right before the G20. Two guests- Tsuneo Watanabe of Sasakawa Peace Foundation and Timony Kelly of Reuters have extensive experience of doing research both in the US and in Japan, and writing books, articles etc.

Mr. Tsuneo Watanabe has been a senior researcher at CSIS in Washington, Japan Foundation and currently with SPF. He appears on some media in Japan. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-LrLo4hHOc) and Mr. Kelly has written many articles/columns on Reuters.( https://www.reuters.com/journalists/tim-kelly)

Join us to find out how the global powers seem to move and how trade and technological leadership between the two superpowers are taking shape.
1.All session will be conducted in English; and we welcome all who are interested in Global Agenda.
2.The maximum number of participants are 40, so if the total numbers of applicants exceed 40, we cannot accept the offer.
